How Podcasts Can Help You Get More Done

Ever wish you could use all of your senses more effectively? You can simply listen and get more done.

Ever wish you could use all of your senses more effectively? You can simply listen and get more done. Perfect for commuters.

This is Day 10 of our 31 Ways to Get More Done series. To read all the posts in order, visit the introduction post to see the outline for the whole series.

I spend an hour traveling each day to drop my daughter off at preschool in the morning and drive to work. In the evening, I spend an hour driving to pick my daughter up in the afternoon, and drive home.  Rather than complain or be sour about it, I decided to use that time as wisely as I can.  If I am in the car alone, these are ways I can still be productive.

Podcasts What Are Podcasts?

Digital audio files made available on the Internet for downloading to a computer or mobile device, typically available as a series, new installments of which can be received by subscribers automatically.

How to Listen to Podcasts

1. On a blog/website – Click the play button when starting a podcast

2. On your desktop, laptop, smart phone, iPad, iPod Touch, etc. You can use apps like iTunes, Downcast (which allow you to search for shows, subscribe to them and speed up the audio.), and Stitcher.

3. Subscribe to the Podcast – On the website or in the app you use, there is usually a subscribe feature so that you are automatically notified when new episodes are available.

My Favorite Podcasts for Moms

Power of Moms: A Gathering Place for Deliberate Moms :: April and Saren (from Power of Moms) “co-host this lively on-demand audio podcast–often featuring special guests, and always discussing topics that will strengthen each of us as deliberate mothers.”

The Art of Simple Podcast :: Hosted by Tsh Oxenreider, founder of the blog The Art of Simple. Features episodes about “food, good music, writing, books, bedtime routines, and the challenges of working from home.

InspiredToAction.com :: Inspiration for Motherhood By Kat Lee. “It’s like a pep talk for moms. Each episode of the Inspired To Action Podcast is to…that’s right…inspire YOU to action. Bringing you motivating interviews, practical tips and lots of fun yet-insanely-useful conversation with people who believe in YOU and the amazing role you have as a mother. You’re a mom. You’re totally a big deal.”

Others (I haven’t listened to):

THE POWER DOWN PODCAST :: SITS girl affiliated, “grassroots podcast: inspired by the growing need we’ve experienced in the blogger community to find online and off-line balance. Power Down is low on bells and whistles and big on great guests and passionate conversation.”

MOJO MOM PODCAST :: Hosted by Amy Tiermann, a mom, talks about about balancing work and parenting, with lots of great current news talk and guest interviews.
