How to Be a Working Mom and Go To School

Working moms may find it hard to balance work, school, and home.  Here  are some tips to help handle it all.

how-to-be-a-working-mom-and-go-to-schoolI’m excited to present a 3-part abbreviated interview (not word for word) with my friend Samantha, from Have Sippy, Will Travel.  We “met” about 2 years ago when she was looking for guest posts about coupons on her site.  I contacted her, started writing, and the rest is history.  She is one of the hardest working women, moms, and writers I know, so I knew she would be a great resource to tap into to help other moms manage all of the hats we wear.

1. Give us a quick intro to you, your family and your blog.

My name is Samantha.  I am a writer and blogger who lives in New Jersey.  I have an amazing five year old son named Ronan and I’ve been married to my husband for 10 years.  I started my blog Have Sippy, Will Travel in August 2010.

2.  How do you fit school into your schedule?

I go part-time at night, not during summer.  It took 5 years to get my Master’s degree (while being a mom).  Right now I am working toward my Ph. D. in History.  I want to teach college history and would still continue writing.

3.  How do you get it all done?

I say what I mean.   I am the type of person who is going to tell you exactly what I want, need, and feel.  I am prompt, get work done, with no drama.  When, a product arrives late, I am sometimes late on reviews ,but I communicates with my contact promptly. I am never late on articles.

4.  What do you give up to get it all done?

I usually watch a half hour of tv per night, as entertainment to wind down and turn my brain off.  I need this for my sanity.  I have basically given up a lot of personal time, the ability to go to the gym, my social life (although I go out a few times a month), and getting anything professional done.  I don’t have  have time for those appointments.  I cut my own hair.

5.  During the school year, how do you get your school work done along with blogging and taking care of your family?

I don’t sleep much. LOL.

Samantha is a writer and blogger.  She works with Wyndham Worldwide’s Women on Their Way as  a Travel Blogger, writes syndicated columns, and was ranked in the Top 10 Most Influential Moms in Social Media.  Catch up with her on her blog Have Sippy, Will Travel where she writes about travel, product reviews, food, and kids. If you are a working mom in school, how do you handle it all? What have you sacrificed?
