Being a Working Mom has never been easy and Stephanie Coontz’s recent article about persistent gender inequality in the U.S. not only shames us internationally (we are the only developed country that does NOT give paid maternity leave) it highlights ways we have actually regressed in terms of equal opportunities in the work place. In the spirit of Coontz’s suggestion “[that we] develop work-life policies that enable people to put their gender values into practice” here are key things companies can do to make “working mom” less of an oxymoron. Besides winning points with women, it’s also good business. As companies seek ways to create more sticky work environments, being family-friendly is a big plus.
