Splitting chores is the knife in a marriage

 

A recent study out of Norway shows that divorce rates there are about 50% higher among couples who shared the housework. That’s compared with those in which women did most of the chores.

When do I get to go out and find myself? That’s the question that’s been troubling me lately. I’m just about finished with Cheryl Strayed’s Wild and I’d already read Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. These memoirs are about two women who each get to spend close to a year out exploring the world on their own in search of, well, I don’t know what. Happiness? Themselves?

Am I a ‘Working Dad’?

 

I’m a dad — two children, 9 and 7 — and I work. Hard. I fall out of bed at about 5 a.m. and stumble back there at about 10 p.m., and it seems like I haven’t caught my breath or cleared my to-do lists since my first child was born on July 22, 2002.

Yet in spite of all this unremitting labor, no one, not a single person, has ever called me a “working dad.” I’ve never called myself this.

The question on the docket is, “Why not?”

 

 

5 D’s for Busy Moms

When the day seems to get out of your control early and steam roll over you for hours until you are completely exhausted, you are probably missing the five “D’s”. These can be difficult to begin yet liberating once you make this part of your regular daily routine.

I’ve mentioned them a bit before, but we are going to dive in a little bit further to examining each of them.
